Communiqué de Deutsche Post World Net : "Expansion of activities in the UK mail market" ___________________________ "Deutsche Post Global Mail (UK) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Deutsche Post World Net Group, is taking over the British postal operator Speedmail International. Based in London, Speedmail has been operating successfully for many years, both in the UK mail market and in moving international business mail to and from the UK. The acquisition is in line with the Deutsche Post World Net Group strategy for expansion into other world markets. In the business year 2002/2003, Speedmail International, which has some 110 staff, handled 12 million items, making it one of the few licence holders moving significant volume. The company has been operating under an interim postal licence that allowed it to deliver publication related mail items in 22 London postcodes and was granted a long term licence by Postcomm in January 2004 allowing, unlimited bulk m

D’après Transport Intelligence (January 19, 2004) : Hellmann and Stinnes forge intermodal cooperation _____________________ Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and Stinnes (a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn and part of the same group as Schenker) have announced a mutually beneficial partnership which has allowed them to develop an intermodal solution for movement of parcels and groupage consignments throughoutGermany. Hellmann’s depot in Osnabrück, Bremen, Hannover and Hamburg will now be linked with the Frankfurt and Nuremberg locations for overnight delivery. The new collaboration has been enabled by developments in the combined transport system. Previously intermodal solutions have not been appropriate for parcels, groupage or part loads which have increasingly required speed, flexibility, reliability and tracking. In the past these attributes have been missing from road/rail systems and this has made such systems uncompetitive. The need to make rail a serious alternative to road

Modification de la réglementation US des heures de service des conducteurs routiers : > From the pages of Supply Chain Management Review _________________ Hours of Service—Problem or Opportunity? BERNARD J. LA LONDE -- 1/1/2004 On Jan. 4, 2004, a new set of hours-of-service (HOS) regulations took effect. While many carriers have taken note of this legislation, shipper reaction has been somewhat muted. For example, last November, one state motor carrier organization attempted to assemble a panel of two carriers and two shippers to discuss the transportation and customer-service implications of the new rules. They had no difficulty finding the two carrier members for the panel. But they could not find two shippers who were willing or able to discuss the new legislation. As a result, the session was cancelled. La suite est sur : http://www.manufacturing.net/scm/index.asp?layout=article&articleid=CA374527 ________________
