DHL Global Mail and Yamato form mail JV

DHL Global Mail and Yamato form mail JV DHL Global Mail has reached an agreement with Yamato Holdings to form a mail business joint venture in Japan. The first of its kind in the country, the new JV will offer a full range of direct marketing services. DHL Global Mail will hold 49% and Yamato Holdings 51% of the shares. DHL’s parent company, Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN), is the first foreign service provider to make a successful entry into the Japanese mail market. DPWN and Yamato have been co-operating since 2004 in the field of international mail delivery. Yamato is one of the leading private service providers for letter and parcel delivery in Japan, with a broad shareholder structure and revenues of almost €8 billion. The Japanese mail market provides for volumes of around €13 billion. The ‘non-correspondence’ market (around €4 billion) and direct marketing segment (€7 billion) are open to competition. UTi Worldwide acquires Market Industries for $197m UTi Worldwide has bought privately held Portland-based Market Industries for $197.1 million in cash, is subject to certain closing, working capital and tax-related adjustments. Market Industries provides 3PL services and multi-modal transportation capacity solutions specialising in truck brokerage. Its domestic freight management services are branded under the trade name Market Transport Services. For its fiscal year ended December 31, 2005, Market Industries generated unaudited pro forma gross revenues of approximately $358.9 million, which include the pro forma full-year impact of two acquisitions made during 2005. About the LWA members: Azkar (Iberia): a logistics company with a workforce of 5,000, storage space totalling 640,000 m2 of storage space and a fleet of 2,200 trucks. In 2005, Azkar posted a turnover of €330 million. During the last five years, Azkar invested just under €170 million into its Spanish and Portuguese sites. Bartolini (Italy): an integrated logistics services provider with a workforce of 10,000 and more than 500,000 m2 of storage space. Bartolini delivers around 80 million parcels a year, and reported annual sales of €490 million. Bibby Distribution (UK): a wholly owned subsidiary of the privately owned Bibby Line Group.
