Toll hits the acquisition trail again Toll Group has announced its intention to acquire a controlling interest in BALtrans, one of the largest Asia-based freight forwarding and logistics companies, for approximately A$365 million. (12/20/2007) BALtrans’s international network spans all major cities in Asia, North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and the company generates annual revenues of around A$690 million. Toll managing director Paul Little said: “BALtrans is a key element of our Asian growth strategy and provides a global freight forwarding network from its strong Asian base. The inclusion of BALtrans with the Toll Group based on historicals would result in annual revenues outside Australia and New Zealand of in excess of A$1.2 billion, which is more than 20% of our revenues, excluding Virgin Blue.” He added that the businesses of both companies are highly complementary in terms of strategy, focus, capability, customers and industry segments with strong growth-oriente

Deutsche Bahn to acquire EWS Wednesday 07 November 2007 The European Commissions has today, Wednesday 7 November 2007, approved the proposed acquisition of English Welsh & Scottish Railway Holdings Limited (EWS) by Deutsche Bahn. A EWS spokesperson said: “EWS and Deutsche Bahn welcome the decision announced today by the European Commission. Both companies look forward to working together to develop rail freight in Europe. The business strategy of EWS remains the same; to continue growing rail freight services through its operations in Britain and through Euro Cargo Rail in France.” ___________________________________________________________________________________

Communiqué du groupe CMA-CGM 04 déc. 2007 Le groupe CMA CGM conclut un accord pour l’acquisition d’US Lines Afin de compléter sa couverture mondiale, le groupe CMA CGM annonce aujourd'hui avoir conclu un accord portant sur l’acquisition d’US Lines (USL), compagnie maritime basée à Santa Ana en Californie. US Lines est un partenaire maritime d’ANL, la filiale du groupe CMA CGM experte des marchés Australien et Néo Zélandais. Les deux compagnies maritimes opèrent actuellement une flotte de huit navires dans un service tricontinental hebdomadaire. Les deux lignes, ANL et USL continueront à fonctionner sous leurs propres marques et le management des équipes d’USL restera inchangé. Les équipes, composées de professionnels reconnus, ont fait d’USL un des leaders de son secteur. Data for the European Union of 25 members showed that 1/3 of energy consumption is taken up by transport. On 22 November the Transport Committee discussed a report, being drafted by Italian MEP Gabriele Albertini (EPP-ED), which says that savings of 60% are possible. A hearing was also held in October. The amount of energy we currently use for transport accounts for 24% of the EU's greenhouse gas emissions.
