Panalpina has acquired its longstanding agent for the Nordic area – the Oslo-based Overseas Shipping Group – for an undisclosed purchase price. (10/5/2005)
The transaction (with retroactive effect from January 1, 2005) is subject to the approval of the Norwegian Competition Authorities.
Founded in 1976, Overseas Shipping has a proven track record and a solid position in the Norwegian logistics market. Offering air and sea freight forwarding, liner shipping, time- and voyage chartering, as well as worldwide project logistics, Overseas Shipping generated a turnover of NOK 137.1 million (CHF 25.6m) in 2004.
According to Panalpina’s president & CEO Bruno Sidler, this integration, following many years of successful co-operation, represents a logical step forward and supports Panalpina’s strategy to grow organically and through selected bolt-on acquisitions. “It will allow us to further integrate and expand our network, remain market leader in the oil and gas industry and raise entry barriers for our competitors.”
Tore Ruud, former co-owner & managing director of Overseas Shipping, considers Panalpina “the best possible partner to join forces with.”
Overseas Shipping will form part of Panalpina’s Nordic Area. Panalpina will take over the existing staff of Overseas Shipping, as well as members of senior management. Tore Ruud will continue to act in his capacity as managing director.
