En l'espèce TNT UK explique que le temps qui n'est pas consacré à la conduite ne devrait pas être pris en compte dans la durée moyenne de 48 heures par semaine. Ce régime sera en vigueur pendant la période 2004-2007 avec un budget compris entre 14,5 et 15 millions d’euros par an. L’objectif de ce nouveau régime d’aides est d’encourager le développement du transport fluvial en France au moyen de la modernisation de la flotte et de la promotion de la profession de transporteur fluvial.
